پلی پروپیلن، به دلیل خاصیت استثنایی که دارد، کاربردهای بسیاری در بخش پزشکی، به ویژه در مراقبت های بهداشتی دارد.
پلی پروپیلن ها (PP) در کاربردهای پزشکی در طول چند دهه گذشته قرن بیستم بدون وقفه پیشرفت کرده اند. و این پیشرفت در آینده نیز ادامه خواهد داشت. پلی پروپیلن ها دارای ترکیبی از خواص هستند که آن را برای طیف گسترده ای از مصارف پزشکی بسیار مفید می کند.
البته باید به این نکته توجه کرد که پلی پروپیلن ها، سختی و مقاومت پلی کربنات ها(PC)، مقاومت در برابر تابش پلی استایرن ها (PS) و پلی اتیلن ها(PE)، مقاومت در برابر ضربه پلی استرها (PET) .یا انعطاف پذیری پلی وینیل کلرید ها (PVC) را ندارند. اما دارای مزایای منحصر به فردی هستند که باعث شده است در مصارف پزشکی بیشتر مورد استفاده قرار گیرند.
مصرف فعلی PP در مراقبت های بهداشتی در سراسر جهان حدود 350KT تخمین زده می شود. و انتظار می رود این مقدار طی چند سال آینده حدود 8.7٪ رشد داشته باشد.
کاربردهای پلی پروپیلن ها در پزشکی:
از این ماده پلیمری به صورت عمده برای ساخت تجهیزات عمومی پزشکی شامل فیلتر ماسک. پلاستیک های یکبار مصرف، سرنگ و سوزن های تزریق زیرپوستی، و همچنین لباس های محافظتی پزشکی استفاده می شود.
با آغاز واکسیناسیون جهانی در مقابل کرونا استفاده از پلی پروپیلن ها به صورت عمده ای افزایش یافت. و همین امر باعث شده است که کارخانه های تولیدکننده تجهیزات پزشکی با حداکثر توان خود در حال فعالیت باشند. تا بتوانند نیاز مشتری های داخلی و خارجی خود را برآورده کنند.
از جمله کشورهایی که آمادگی خود را جهت تولید حداکثری تجهیزات پزشکی اعلام کرده است. کره جنوبی می باشد، با اعلام آمادگی این کشور یکی از بزرگ ترین تولیدکنندگان محصولات پزشکی در کره جنوبی اقدام به تاسیس واحد جدید تولید پلی پروپیلن نموده است.
